Tim Verduyn I don't want to use a printer, but put the output to a file on the network. Connect a lab instrument to the network HardwareĪll,I have a lab instrument that only has a USB port to send his data to a printer.(Microsoft say that there is a hotfix for that error, but when i tried to install the hot fix it says it's already in the latest service pack) I currently downloaded the trial version of Acronis Disk Director and also tried Diskpart.exe however Diskpart.exe comes up with the error message "the volume you selected may not be extended" Even tho we have unallocated space in the same partition of the drive. the page file is on the D: drive and the temp folders are empty however that only free's up a few 100mb to which the Microsoft update then absorb all that space. We have free'd up space to the point there is nothing more we can free up. Other than that, there are some 3rd party utiltiies for managing partitions - Partition Magic is a really useful product to have in your toolkit. It's surprising how many temp files etc get left lying around, taking up space. I'd also look to see if there are other things that could be be moved / removed as well. Using windirstat and treesize, the system volume information folder is only showing 20kb size. One thing worth checking - is the paging file on the C Drive? If so, you could move it to another drive and that would free up some space straight away. I have also cleared the indexing catalog and the shadow copies. I have already disabled Volume Shadow Copy and indexing on all drives. ![]() I can tell you, however, that chkdsk did not find any errors or make any repairs. ![]() I can't post output from chkdsk as I did not save it and i have now re-booted the server into normal mode for the day shift. This also makes no difference.Ĭan anyone shed any light on this and/or point to any tools (hopefully open source of free trial) that I could use to get more information on the problem? I have turned off Volume Shadow Copy on all drives. I cannot find them and cannot delete them. These "unknown files" are essentially invisible. ![]() However, it is showing 10GB of "unknown files". Using windirstat, it still shows that the "real disk usage" on the disk is about 7.7GB. This gives a better evaluation of disk space usage by folder and file than the standard windows explorer. Trying to get to the bottom of this, i have downloaded and used the free program windirstat. The total disk usage from windows server 2003 and the installed applications taking about 7.7GB of the available disk space.Ībout a week ago, the drive space usage suddenly jumped to 18GB. Until recently, this drive was looking very healthy. A c:\ drive onto which the Windows 2003 server system and other applications are installed is sized at 20GB. I am running a hosted windows 2003 R2 server. ![]()
